Dear Lowlanders,

In the latest issue of _contact bulletin_ (published by The
European Bureau of Lesser Used Languages),* I found the following
announcement many of you might find interesting. I do not know how
payment and postage are handled in the case of those of us outside
Europe.

Anthology of Germany's Regional and Minority Languages

On the occasion of the European Year of Languages EBLUL's
German MSC published an anthology of Germany's regional
and minority languages. The aim was to make these "hidden"
languages known to a more general public both at home and
abroad. The first copy of the book "Wanderer in zwei
Sprachen" (Travellers in two Languages), which is the first
compilation of this nature in the history of the Federal Republic
of Germany, was officially presented to the Parliamentary
Secretary of State in the Federal Ministry of the Interior,
Cornelie Sonntag-Wolgast, during the congress "Linguistic
Diversity and Democracy in Germany" held in Berlin in
November 2001.

The book contains six sections with prose and poetry in Danish,
North and Sater Frisian, Low German, Lower and Upper
Sorbian together with a Standard German translation of all
texts. Each section also includes a short introduction into the
speech community's literature as well as three pictures painted
by children from the community. Finally the book is rounded
off by a general introduction to the situation of the regional and
minority languages in Germany. The book is 155 pages long
and can be purchased for a nominal fee of 6 euro from the
Plattdütskbüro, Ostfriesische Landschaft, Postfach 1580, D -
26585 Aurich, fax: 0049-4941-179970, e-mail:
platt at ostfriesischelandschaft.de.

new online version is published, you can ask to be added to an email
list, and for 1 Euro per issue, you can also request a biannual
