I've also noticed a slight difference between spoken English in certain
parts of Western Canada and spoken English in Southern Ontario. I
notice it
whenever someone says my name, Randy. The 'a' in my name, which
represents
the { phoneme is pronounced slightly differently. I know very little
phonetic theory, so I can't accurately describe the difference, but
based on
what I do know, I think one would say that the { is pronounced slightly
higher.

I've heard this pronunciation from speakers coming as far west as B.C.,
and
as far east as Thunder Bay in Northern Ontario, and hear it most
strongly in
Albertan speach, although I don't know where the dividing line is, or if
one
exists. When I commented on this to one Calgary Native, she replied
that
Southern Ontarians sound more like Americans in that respect.

What is meant below by 'clipping vowels'?
