Well, I'm sorry to keep flogging this dead horse, but Scotch is also the
name of a people that came out from Scotland 250-300 years ago to North
America, primarily to the southern colonies.  For example, see
http://www.rootsweb.com/~sisusa/.  My ancestors were among these, and if
the people who stayed back insist on spelling the same word in a new way,
more power to them, but they should not be insulted or ashamed by our use
of the old spelling or insinuate that we are somehow ignorant for not
amending our spelling to suit them.
