Beste Gustaaf,

As far as I know, there are 3 "Moorsels" in the Lowlands.
The first one is located in Noord-Brabant, near Someren and this "Moorsel"
means
"dwelling nearby a marsh". Another "Moorsel" is indeed a Flemish village
(part of
Aalst now), and older names for the township like "Morcella" (1114 A.D.)
attest that
it probably meant "muddy place". The last "Moorsel" is Brabantish and the
form
"Morslo" (1139 A.D.) shows that it originally designated "marshy woodland".
So I think your surname "Van Moorsel" has no relation with the Moors. To me,
it seems
likely that one of your ancestors was born in Moorsel, Noord-Brabant.
