Colin, the author that I paraphrased is a respected Scottish historian and
writer.

          Scotland, in the late 1600's and early 1700 was run by the Crown.
Scotland may have had a legislature during that time, but they were
controlled by the English.  The crown ordered the Glencoe Massacre.  Are you
familiar with that?  That was a period of heavy migration of Scots-Irish to
America, hence the attitudes that caused the Revolution.
           If anyone thinks that England was not a bloody tyrant during that
period, they got their history lessons from England.    Nuff said.
