This has been behind my use of Eudora for over ten years. However, my
quandary now is that Eudora has no switch will allows it to receive in
Unicode, at least none that my computer techie could find, and emails to
Eudora have gone unanswered. I send this in the hope that perhaps someone
out there knows better. Otherwise, I will have to continue to receive LL-L
submissions all garbled up, or switch to the dreaded MS Outlook!!

they are real problems - and you can easily get one and not realise that you
have one - until it is too late!! Not to be alarmist - you should be very,
very careful and wary of any attachments you get from people you don't know.
Even from people you know you need to be careful - they may unintentionally
be forwarding on a file to you that has a virus in it -that is why you
should scan all attachments - save them to a disk etc -and then scan them
with anti-virus software. Remember though - that antivirus software is not a
100% assurance that all is well if it does not find anything. The free
antivirus software AVG from www.grisoft.com - will if you wish attach itself
to Outlookexpress and scan all your outgoing emails -and leaves a message at
the bottom to say they have been scanned for viruses and are o.k ( you more
have to say you don't want it to than want it to ) - there should be a
message like this at the bottom of my emails -as I use them. I am not sure
if it scans out going attachments -but it would be silly if it didn't - as
that is where the viruses mainly are!! ( I'll look into this ).
I agree with Oli message about not using M.S products - I like most people
hate to see so much money going to their virtual monopoly -and Linux is much
more open and free. M.S products are also notoriously unstable and
vulnerable -but how many programmes are supported by Linux?? That has
always been my problem!

There is also a free utility called Stinger, downloadable from the MacAfee
website, which kills Bugbear and several similar e-mail worms. Some of these
are particularly intractable, because they scan the memory and remove
conventional anti-virus software before they run.
