Dear Lowlanders,

of course, I am going to respect Ron's request not to discuss current events
in this forum.

Still, I think this is a good time to post this haunting Lower Saxon song
(by Klaus Groth, as far as I know). This one sends shivers down my spine
whenever I hear or sing it.

De junge Wetfru

Wenn abends roth de Wulken treckt,
So denk ik noch an di!
So trock vörbi dat ganze Heer,
Un du weerst mit darbi.
So trock vörbi dat ganze Heer,
Un du weerst mit darbi.

Wenn ut de Bööm de Blaeder fallt,
So denk ik glik an di!
So full so männi brawe Jung,
Un du weerst mit darbi.
So full so männi brawe Jung,
Un du weerst mit darbi.

Denn set ik mi so truri hen,
Un denk so veel an di!
Ik et allen mien Abendbrot,
Un du büst nich darbi.
Ik et allen mien Abendbrot,
Un du büst nich darbi.

Translation:

The Young Widow

When red clouds are drifting by at night,
I still think of you.
The entire army marched past like that,
And you were among them.
The entire army marched past like that,
And you were among them.

When leaves are falling from the trees,
I think of you at once!
Many a brave lad fell like that,
And you were among them.
Many a brave lad fell like that,
And you were among them.

Then I sit down so sadly
And think of you so much,
I eat my supper alone,
And you are not with me.
I eat my supper alone,
And you are not with me.

May we all live to see more peaceful times.

Gabriele

Thanks, Gabriele, on all counts.
