In de stad Groningen volgden er nog twee regels (van een tweede couplet weet
ik niets):

't hele joar dat duurt zo lang
dat mien lichie branden kan.

Het was geen favoriet lied want het duurde nogal lang en we hadden haast ...

Subject: Holidays

For purposes of comparison and for all of those who collect this sort of
folkloristic material, below is a North(ern Lowlands) Saxon (Germany)
translation of my neighbor Roeliena's Groningen Lowlands Saxon (Netherlands)
Martinmas song (above). Variant forms are parenthesized. Note that
Groningen LS belongs typologically to the North Saxon group of dialects.

Neo-Hanseatic spelling:

   Sankt Marten, bischup (~ bischop),
Ruum vun (~ von ~ van) al dey landen,
Dat wy hyr mit lich(k)ens loupt (~ loupen),
Is vör us (~ uns ~ ons) keyn schanden.
   Hyr waant eyn ryke man,
Dey us (~ uns ~ ons) wat geven kan.
Geev' my eyn cent, appel or 'n beer,
Kaamt wy 't heyle jaar nich (~ neyt ~ ni ~ ne) weer.
't heyle jaar, dat duert so lang,
   Is myn lich(k)en al lang up-brand (~ op-brand).

German-based spelling:

   Sankt Marten, Bischup (~ Bischop),
Ruhm vun (~ von ~ van) all de Lann'n,
Dat wi hier mit Lich(k)ens loopt (~ lopen),
Is för us (~ uns ~ ons) keen Schann'n.
   Hier wahnt een rieke Mann,
De us (~ uns ~ ons) wat geven kann.
Geev' mi een Cent, Appel or 'n Beer,
Kaamt wi 't hele Jahr nich (~ neet ~ ni ~ ne) weer.
't hele Jahr, dat duurt so lang,
Is mien Lich(k)en al lang upbrannt (~ opbrannt).

Dutch-based spelling:

   Saankt Maarten, bischup (~ bischop),
Roem von (~ van) al dei laan'n,
Dat wie hier mit lich(k)ens loupt (~ loupen),
Is vör os (~ ons) keyn schaan'n.
   Hier woant ein rieke maan,
Dei os (~ ons) wat gevn kan.
Geev' mie ein cent, appel or 'n beer,
Kaamt wie 't heile joar nich (~ neit ~ ni ~ ne) weer.
't heile joar, dat doert zo laang,
Is mien lich(k)en al laang opbraand.

My (rather fee) translation:

   Saint Martin, bishop,
   All the nations' fame,
We're here to walk our candles
And feel it is no shame.
Don't you have something to spare --
   A penny, apple or a pear --
Rich man that is living here?
We won't be back for another year.
A year’s too long. It's much too late.
My light won't last. I cannot wait.

Regards,
Reinhard/Ron
