Folks,

Our Kenneth (Rohde Christiansen) just drew my attention to a movie in ...
yes, Lowlands Saxon (Low German)! Thanks, Kenneth.

Here is a review in German:
http://www.spiegel.de/kultur/kino/0,1518,270673,00.html

The title is _De neie Apparatspott - Gerangel in Ruum & Tied_ (something
like "The New Potting Pan - Catfight in Space & Time"). It is supposed to
be a spoof of _Startrek_, set in a garden shed in Lower Saxony's town of
Sulingen.

I'm not quite sure what to think of it yet. Nice to see the language used
in a movie. But I wonder if the language isn't being spoofed along with the
Hollywood movie. However, attracting the attention of the reviewers of the
magazine _Der Spiegel_ isn't something LS stuff usually does. And you know
what they say: "negative publicity is better than no publicity." Might this
be a sneaky way of attracting the younger crowd to the language?
Apparently, ca. 400 people showed up at the "world premier" in Diepholtz,
some having traveled as far as from Mecklenburg. There is said to have been
"several minutes of standing ovation." The participants -- none of which is
a native speaker -- remarked that they used the language "because it's so
funny" ...

Cheerio!
Reinhard/Ron
