Subject: Etymology

Beste Ron,

Nope, my Brabantish dialect doesn't have initial aspiration (re
pronouncing _plafond_
as _blafong_). We often used to palatalize /t/ though at the beginning
of a word, like:

"top" (D), ("top" (E)) > "(t)sjop" (B)
"toen" (D), ("then" (E)) resulting in something halfway between "thoen",
"tsoen" and "tjoen"
"tegen" (D), ("against" (E)) realized as a mix of "tjegen", "tsegen" and
"thegen"
"*tombelen" (B), "to stumble" (E), being pronounced downright
"sjoempeln" nowadays,
probably "tsjoempeln" > "sjoempeln"...

You could be right suggesting that the word _blafong_ might be borrowed
from a
German aspirating dialect...It doesn't seem very likely, but I'll check
it out.

Greetings,

Luc Hellinckx
