jij hebt gevraagt, hoe het kwam, dat deze menzen op tocht gegaan zijn,
naar Holland of Duitsland.

de hoofdgrond, omdat deze mensen op tocht naar Holland (Duitsland) en
(varkens) weer terug gegaan zijn, was natuurlijk de mogelijkheid, in
het andere land werk en levensonderhoud voor zichzelf en misschien ook
voor die zijnen thuis te vinden. Vrouw en kinderen werden verzorgd door
het grootgezin. Maar honger was ook alltijd tegenwoordig op een kleine
boerderij. Later, in het 19ste eeuw heeft die bevolkingsdruk afgenomen.
Textielindustrie kwam op. Noorwest-Duitsland was een centrum ervan, net
zo als op die andere kant van de grens. Bovendien zijn vele potentieele
Holland gangers - en ook van die andere richting in Groningen en Drenthe
naar Amerika geëmigreerd.
De Taal was nooit een problem. Even mijn ouders hebben geen vreemde
talen gesproken. Maar zij hebben geen moelijkheid gehad, om in hun eigen
taal "Münsterlander Plattduits" met Nederlanders te "küren".

You asked,  why did these  people leave their environment for wandering
to Holland or the other direction.
The main reason for Lower saxons and  Westphalians to go on the walk to
Holland  by returning home, was of course the opportunity  to get work
and living for oneself and perhaps for the beloved ones at home. Wife
and kids were in care of  the extended family. But  to starve was a
permanent appearance on small farms. Later in 19th Century increase in
population declined again with upcoming of textile industries.
Northwest-Germany was a center of that as well as  the other side of the
border. Many Holland walkers and the same from Groningen and Drenthe
left their home for America.

Language has never been a problem, Even my parents never spoke a strange
language. But they ha never had problems in small talk "Münsterland Low
German" with Dutch ones.
