Another fine example is a song we learned in third grade; girls would sing
the verses about the posh little girl from Nienburg, while boys would answer
in Platt with the verses about the old farmer from Kalenberg. Sorry I have
no time for translation (my daughter's birthday today!); in principle, each
verse just describes what she is wearing, followed by what the farmer is
wearing. There are certain differences in style... like her tiny shoes with
many bows, compared to his old boots with plenty of cow dung on them...

Hi, Gabriele, Lowlanders!

Thanks for the song, Gabriele, and refreshing my memory.  We used to sing
that too, but I had totally forgotten about it.  I don't remember our
version, but at least the boys' version was somewhat different and in a
different dialect.

Mine too!  (Watch out! Driving age at last! ;-) )  I'm a "Christmas Eve
child" too.
