>On the other hand 'Ros' means 'horse' in archaic Dutch,<

Could anyone give me any idea the spread of Ros and Ors across the Lowland
languages?
Where does Ors begin ? ( Saxon, I know - but how far spread is it?)

And who uses/used Ros?

Thanks
Heather

Heather,

Old Saxon has predominantly _hros_ (and _hengist_) while the Modern Low
Saxon dialects have predominently _peyrd_ (<Peerd>, <Pierd>, etc., and
_hingst_ ~ _hengst_ for male horses). Middle Saxon still used _ros_ and
_ors_ extensively.

German has _Ross_ as an archaic word, while the ordinary word is _Pferd_.

Old Frisian has _hors_, _hars_ and _hers_, Modern W. Frisian (archaic?)
_hoars_.

Regards,
Reinhard/Ron
