It is also mentioned in this Ceefax message that kids in Fryslân are weak in
language AND mathematics (calculations). It seems to me that this cannot be
tracked back to language alone. Other reasons may be social economic and
cultural.

Mayor De Jonge's proposal is at least remarkable, because in general it
turns out that schools in rural areas have better results than in bigger
cities (esp. in de Randstad). I guess his proposal is mainly meant to
provoke discussion on how to improve quality of the Frisian schools. Perhaps
the hope is also that more money can be extracted from the Ministry of
Education - the Dutch government is easier attracted to problems in de
Randstad than in the periphery of the country, a provoking idea may open the
eyes.

Verbetering: ... één leerling

(Maar ik neem aan dat andere correcties nodig zijn. Tenminste *probeer* ik
in het Nederlands en in andere Laaglandse talen te schrijven en daardoor aan
te duiden dat men op deze lijst talen gebruiken kan die men leert, en dat
fouten niet het eind van de wereld betekenen. Bovendien hebben sommige
fouten "entertainment value".)
