Good to see that there are people outside Zeeland who have an eye for the
bizarre situation of Zeelandic. But I do not really agree with the fact that
Matthieu states that a lot of things have changed for the better. At least,
not when it comes to Zeelandic.
After the official recognition of Frisian, Low Saxon and Limburgish, the
province of Zeeland also applied for official recognition of Zeelandic. That
was three years ago. There has still been no reaction whatsoever by the
Dutch government on the official application by the province of Zeeland.
This is said to be due to 'recent' changes in government as a result of
'recent' elections (which were already held two years ago).
It is generally believed that because of the negative advise of the
'Nederlandse Taalunie' (NB: an organization supporting the use of Standard
Dutch!) about the Zeelandic application, Zeelandic will not be officially
recognized. Main argument: with Dutch, Frisian, Low Saxon and Limburgish we
already have enough official (regional) languages; if Zeelandic is
recognized, more regional languages might also apply for recognition (e.g.
Brabantish)...
Bizarre!

Regards,

Marco
