Subject: Administrativia

Dear Lowlanders,

If all goes according to plan, I will undergo (outpatient) surgery tomorrow
(Friday) morning.  It is nothing terribly serious or alarming, although, of
course, no type of surgery should be taken too lightly.  Depending on how
long I will be on mind-altering pain medication, I will probably abstain
from any mass communication, perhaps from emailing altogether, for a few
days, possibly until the middle of next week.  (If you start getting
messages from me that are even more bizarre than usual, please assume that I
have somehow escaped from supervision ...)

In my absence, Mathieu van Woerkom will be taking care of List business.
Please do not feel alarmed if postings arrive sporadically, depending on
busy Mathieu's schedule.  On the other hand, please do not withhold your
brilliant queries and pearls of wisdom for the duration.  They will not fall
into a black hole but will be waiting their turns in a queue.  You'll see:
the List can function pretty darn well without me.

I'll be missing you and will be back before you can ten times say "The
sagacious man often wouldn't bumpy and never speaks much."
