Subject: Holidays (off topic?)

Hello all,

First, I apologize for the somewhat off-topic question, but here goes...

With Halloween coming up around the corner, I was wondering if someone could
offer a reasonable English translation of the Gaelic "Samhain" - I was
always under the impression it was the name of the last Celtic month and
meant something like "harvest". Is this correct? I mean the month, not the
history and significance of the holiday itself. Speaking of which, I was
also told that the word represents the name of a Celtic god - is there any
truth to this?

Is/Was this holiday also known in the Brythonic speaking lands, and if so,
what was it called?

Thanks,

Mike S
