We should ask Henry P. about this, because when I'm right he lives in a
town called Almere, situated in Flevoland, one of the polders in the
IJsselmeer, the former Zuiderzee (Suydersee). In the Netherlands, <Almere>
is usually translated as <great/big sea>. Whether that is Frisian or Dutch
I don't know. Friesland lies to the North East of the Zuiderzee, Low Saxon
speaking Overijssel and Guelders (Gelderland) to the East, and Noord-
Holland, including West-Friesland is West of it.

Very interesting!  Unfortunately, there are some email problems between our
