Let me see if I can get this right......
Danke an alle!
All this information about Alsatian helps to bring my step-grandmother alive
again in my mind's ears. It helps me think about what her young life might
have been like before she came to the United States.

As far as I am concerned, you are more than welcome, Marsha dear. I know
how much this sort of information means to you.

Below is a tiny prezzy for you, a cherry on top: an Alsatian springtime
song. If you click on the link
http://www.crdp-strasbourg.fr/fait_ling/telech/frejjohr.mp3 you will hear
René Eglès perform it, following his brief spoken prologue in which he tells
us that it's a titmouse that is calling, sounding like "D' Ziet isch do! D'
Ziet isch do! D' Ziet isch do!" ("The time has come! The time has come! The
time has come!" -- Standard German "Die Zeit ist da!"), heralding the
arrival of spring, the loveliest time of the year, as far he is concerned.

Enjoy, Marscha, despite the unseasonable and slightly un-Lowlandic nature!

Friendly regards,
Reinhard/Ron

   SPRINGTIME

   By Jean-Marie Friedrich
   Translated by Reinhard F. Hahn

Can you hear all the little birds sing?
   Hoarfrost is ending with spring.
Springtime has knocked on our door,
   And everyone's happy once more.

All the children are laughing and singing,
   Awaking all flowers spring's bringing.
Springtime has knocked on our door,
   And everyone's happy once more.

Ah, sunshine! There's no sweeter thing.
Hear the titmouse on the well cover sing!
Springtime has knocked on our door,
   And everyone's happy once more.
