While messing about with Google to try this, I came across a most
amazing feature. Sorry if I'm the only person in the world to not know
about this already, but I thought I would report it because it does seem
such useful research tool.

It's called Google Sets and it's at http://labs.google.com/sets

What you do is, you type in a list of things, and it makes it up into a
larger set. You know how hard it is to think of examples of things?
Well, this thinks of examples for you!

I typed: dostoyevsky, tolstoy
It gave me: Dostoyevsky, Tolstoy, Chekhov.

I typed: gaelic, english, welsh
It gave me: Gaelic, English, Welsh, Cornish.

I typed: dutch, english, welsh
It gave me: Welsh, English, Dutch, German, Italian, Spanish, Danish,
Swedish, French, Czech, Norwegian, Japanese, Hungarian, Chinese, Portuguese.

I typed: phonology, morphology, syntax
It gave me: Morphology, Phonology, Syntax, Semantics, Phonetics,
Historical, Pragmatics, Vocabulary, historical linguistics,
sociolinguistics, psycholinguistics, Computational Linguistics, Lexicon,
Language Varieties.

I typed: orthography, spelling
It gave me: Orthography, Spelling, grammar, Reading, Punctuation,
Capitalization, vocabulary, WRITING, Math, Science, Social Studies,
language, Sentence Structure, usage.

I typed: scots, english
It gave me: Scots, English, Welsh, British Sign Language, Dutch,
Afrikaans, Frisian, Limburgish, General Peripheral, German, Norwegian,
Scots Gaelic

I don't know what "General Peripheral" has to do with anything, but it's
still pretty good!
