>In context of purchasing an Englisch antique dining-table there came
across
the word E:'rooster' for the material the table was made of. I'm curious to
know if this word also exists in English for the tree usually named E:
'elm', <

Although the OED doesn't list 'rooster' ( surprisingly!) it does have this
under 'roost' which may explain a link at least

Roost perch for fowls, OE hrost = M Du, Du roest and perhaps OSaxon hrost
spars of a roof: of unknown origin.

Perhaps the spars of the roof were made from elm?
