Bedankt, Jacqueline!
Heel duidelijk, jouw uitleg. Door je stukje over onze schilderachtige taal
bedacht ik mij dat dit ook een soort progressive mood is ;-)

in plaats van "ik eet" zeggen we "ik zit te eten"  - I am eating
in plaats van "hij zeurt weer" > "hij loopt te zeuren" of zelfs
"hij ligt te zeuren" - he is nagging   ook al zit, loopt of ligt hij in
werkelijkheid helemaal niet. etc etc

Natuurlijk is dit meestal spreektaal maar het zijn wel erg veel gebruikte
vormen in het moderne Nederlands. Ik ben wel benieuwd hoe dat in
Vlaanderen zit, in het Afrikaans en het Nedersaksisch van Duitsland...

the language made me think that these constructions are a kind of
progressive mood as well.

in stead of "ik eet" lit. I eat, we say "ik zit te eten" lit. I sit and
eat = I am eating
in stead of "hij zeurt" lit. he nags, we say "hij loopt te zeuren" lit. he
walks and nags = he is nagging, or "hij ligt te zeuren" lit. he lies and
nags, even if he isn't sitting, walking or lying at all.

I'm curious if the same happens in Belgium Dutch, in Afrikaans and Low
Saxon in Germany too.
