Moi Leeglaanders,



Ik binne mi’j op’t moment wat an ’t verdiepen in de heksenprocessen in
Nederlaand en mit name in ’t Gelderse en ’t Hollaandse gedielte. Ik bin der
al wel achter,dat der bi’j oonz in ’t landschup der nooit een heks
veroordielt is tut de braandstapel. Wel bint der enkele aoverleveringen dat
der meinsen ‘ewest bint die deur de Dreinse bevolking uutmaakt bint veur
heksen. Zi’j weurden dan mangs (Katten) ‘enuumt (Kastserije=Hekserije) Now
bin ik beneijd, hoe as det in ’t Nedersassisch gedielte van Duutslaand lopen
is. In zuud-Duutslaand en ök in ’t Hollandse en Gelderse gedielte van
Nederlaand, bint duuzenden meinsen verbraand umdet de buren wat op ze an te
marken hadden. En dankbaor gebruuk maakten van de meugelijkheid umme die
meinsen an te klagen en uut te maken veur heksen. De Karke hoefde niet mit
harde bewiezen te komen det die meinsen daadwarkelijk kunden toveren maor zi’j
weurden wal zo biestachtig folterd dat zi’j wal geerne bekenden een hekse te
wezen dan waren zi'j van de piene of. Mien vraoge, bint der in Needersaksen
ök heksen veroordielt tut de braandstapel en is daor literatuur van.

Folks, our Arend is doing research about witch trials in the Netherlands
(supposedly for his upcoming theater production "Cillie Nevelhekse" ("Cecily
Fog Witch") and asked if there had been any witch trials in Northern
Germany.  I responded above by saying that there had been, though apparently
fewer than in Southern Germany.  I have been told that Ossenbrügge/Osnabrück
was in fact one of the witch trial centers, perhaps the busiest in the
north.

On a personal note let me add that I find many articles about these topics
to be written in an almost amusing tone, often catering to morbid
fascination.  I wonder why not more people treat it with the seriousness I
personally believe it deserves, given that we are dealing with one of the
most serious and most horrendous holocausts in Western history, one of
Europe's darkest chapters, that claimed predominantly women as victims.

Anyway, I gave Arend a few links to relevant pages in German and English.
