The wholly Scandinavian names seem to be new settlements for the most part;
combinations tend to be a Norse personal name with an Englisc suffix, the
so-called "Grimston hybrids" after the type locality in Leicestershire,
which being on the old Danelaw/Wessex border has a lot of examples.  The
fully Danish equivalent would be Grimsby in Lincolnshire for example.

Another common Norse or Danish name element is -thorpe, "village".  I find
it curious that Old English seems to have no counterpart, despite it being
present in both Low- and High German: Dorp in Nederlands/Afrikaans, Dorf in
Deutsch.
