That makes phonological sense:

Plautdietsch  =  Other Low Saxon
a                     = e
j*                     = g
* before front vowels

Rule order:
/geps/ ->
jeps     (palatalization rule)  ->
japs     (vowel lowering rule)

Does it mean 'handful' or 'two handfuls', or both?
