Leiwe Lüüd.

in miin Münsterländisch Platt seggt man "schnopen". Dat hört sick an as
fl."snoepen". Et meent: een is halflegal achter Sötigkeiten her. Dat
engelsche Woord "to snoop" HG: "herumschnüffeln" liikt auk dorup, et is
oaber nich datsölbe.

Dag, beste Heinrich!

(as
in Ingelsch _snow_).

"To appropriate and consume dainties in a clandestine manner"

Up Amerikaansch Ingelsch wardt dat mennig maal noch in düssen sin bruukt.
Middel-Nedderlandsch _snoepen_ un Middel-Sassisch ("Middelnedderduytsch")
_snôpen_ har jüstemang düt hyr beduyden.

"To go around in a sly or prying manner" un "to pry into matters one need
not be concerned with" sünd schynts later beduyden. Semantisch dayt
happen.

Ingelsch _to snoop_ kümt vun Nedderlandsch _snoepen_ (["snup@(n)]) af. My
an-vungen.

Kumpelmenten,
Reinhard/Ron

P.S.: I'm just about off to the airport, catching a flight to California.
See you from there, folks.
