Well, there isn't much more to say about, I guess. At
least not by me.
But the dutch vieux is older than the oldest french
cognac. And our vieux-makers in Schiedam taught the
frenchmen not to throw away their spoiled wine but to
turn it into brandy.
If about this there is something to find on the
internet, then it will not be on a french site [lol].

Hallo,
In reactie op cognac en dutch.
De alambiek(om te distilleren) werd ingevoerd uit Noord Afrika via de haven 
van Brugge
De Bruggelingen hadden handels overeenkomsten met de Arabieren,zo opnstond
het distilleren van jenever.In 1348 was er de grote pest epidemie en zo kwam 
de verspreiding van het distilleren in de lage landen en de rest van het 
westen.
Alambiek is een Arabisch woord Gin is afgeleid van het woord jenever(door 
Vlaamse huurlingen die in dienst waren om een nazaat van Willem de 
Veroveraar uit te schakelen,de huurlingen werden verslagen maar vochten als 
bezeten na onderzoek van de Engelsen, bleek dat ze allen stomdronken waren 
van de jenever)
Het distilleren op Franse bodem werd dan op zijn beurt door de Engelsen naar 
daar gebracht, ze verscheepten de zeer begeerde wijnen maar die werden soms 
zeeziek, dus probeerde men het beste uit de wijn te halen door te 
distilleren="ésprit de vin"
