This doesn't seem to happen to us English-speakers, not in that short time 
anyway.  I'm in Glasgow just now as I write; I don't think I'm starting to 
sound even remotely Scottish, never mind Glaswegian.  I did become (and 
still am) quite New Zealandised/South Africanised/Australianised, but that 
took years, not weeks.

I don't think so in my case- I very much appreciate to read postings in
Scots, specially when generally things are concerned.
But- why not adding a little English summary? It shouldn't be a real effort
for you because you're nativ speakers of both languages.
What an everyday-torture for me, on my side ;-)!

As you write:

And I now add a LS-summary below- couldn't it be at last some amusement for
you to compare both languages?

Allee Diederik, gij komt der wel deurheen, zunne! Maokt ou eigen nie druk.
Maar ik begrijp heel goed dat je de druk van de omgeving voelt op je
taalgebruik, dat dit zelfs je keel kan dichtknijpen en je tijdelijk maakt
tot een zwijgzaam, benauwd en schichtig persoon.
Alleen bestaat die druk voornamelijk in je eigen gedachten...
Je denkt zelf dat de anderen denken dat jij met een vreemd accent spreekt,
en jou daarom zullen veroordelen, en daarom zul je jezelf daardoor
beperken. Zeker in het begin, je zit er immers nog maar een week nu, wil
je natuurlijk toch niet teveel afwijken, opvallen enz., en je kent nog
niemand die je vertrouwen kunt.
Dat zijn heel natuurlijke reacties, niets om je voor te schamen, maar het
kan wel heel lastig zijn.
Ik ken verschillende Vlamingen die al vele jaren in Nederland wonen, en
hun accent grotendeels, in elk geval herkenbaar, hebben behouden. Niemand
in hun omgeving zal daar negatief op reageren.
Natuurlijk kan het onder jongeren, studenten etc., wel voorkomen dat men
jou daarop aanspreekt, meestal uit belangstelling, of anders vanuit de
eigen onzekerheid, maar ik kan je vertellen dat "Belgen" in Nederland over
het algemeen nogal geliefd zijn, vaak charmant, vriendelijk worden
gevonden, en het Vlaamse accent is helemaal populair. Dus daar hoef je
geen angst voor te hebben.

Anderzijds ben je absoluut niet verplicht om je accent te behouden, het is
jouw leven, je mag best Hollands gaan spreken als je in A'dam bent, en
Brabants als je thuis bent. Je hoeft toch niet in je eentje de eer van
Vlaanderen te verdedigen, onder alle omstandigheden, vooral niet als je je
er niet prettig onder voelt?
Wat Reinhard zei, een scheiding van taalvariëteit al gelang naar omstandig-
heden cq plaats, is ook absoluut geen schande.
En... invloed op jouw taal vanuit het Hollands zal zeker onvermijdelijk
zijn, maar so what? Dat is de natuur van taal, eigenlijk is dat toch ook
heel interessant.

Nou ja, in elk geval: maak je niet te druk, probeer vooral te genieten van
het nieuwe leven, probeer zelfs eens een weekend in A'dam te blijven als
je wat mensen hebt leren kennen, en: zoek wat landgenoten op die ook in
A'dam studeren, er is vast wel aan te komen via een site of een vereniging
of ambassade.
