of" meaning a quantity or number of?

Yey! Another one unlurked!

Welcome to the club, John, and congrats on your debut!

I believe that "deal" originally meant "portion," "part," then extended to 
("portion" >) "quantity."  This is certainly what happened in other West 
Germanic varieties, apparently also with Old English _dǣl_ (_dae^l_), which 
preceded imported "part": A part, portion, amount  (attested since 800 CE).

"Compo" sounds fine to me, though you need to anticipate a semantic shift to 
overlap with "wino."  The same probably goes for possible "potto," which 
would have to remain distinct from "potty" and "pothead" (the latter of 
which in turn has nothing to do with "parrot head").

And yet again, "compo"'s spot has already been taken by the values 
"composite (pack of rations)," as well as "compensation" (in Australasia).

So my unanymous vote goes to "potto" (which could also possibly be an 
alternative for "hippo").
