Haai Elsie,

I don't think that this Wiki article about Diets(ch) and Duits(ch) is 
correct. I can't imagine that "Diets(ch)" had this specialized meaning of  
Southern language usage, and "Duuts(ch)" of Northern language usage.
These were just regional varieties of the same word with the same meaning: 
the language spoken by the people in the Netherlands (and adjacent 
territories in Germany), nothing more.

Making the distinction as Wiki does would be the same as saying that
"huis" means a house that is situated in the Netherlands, or Belgium, 
or SA, and "Hause" is a house in Germany, Austria or Switzerland.    

So then, someone who has moved from Amsterdam to Berlin, could say in Dutch

Mijn nieuwe hause is veel beter dan mijn oude huis
or, in German
mein neues Hause ist viel besser als mein altes Huis

Furthermore, I don't think people were aware of a Southern or Northern 
language identity in that times at all.

Nowadays, as the Wiki writes correctly, "Diets" is a suspicious term in 
Dutch, although Marcel might not agree here...
