Well, at least they qualified, which is no mean achievement. Anyway, the
best soccer teams the USA ever fielded were, of course, the teams that won
the WOMEN's world championships in 1991 and 1999, and the Olympic gold medal
in 1996! So who cares that the US boys are pretty forgettable...

Hi all,

"Ghanaians"? Is that proper English? Or is it a nice word inspired on a classical
word like 'Phaeacians'?

I haven't seen any soccer match up till now, because I am really not interested.
What's more, I've grown to dislike it when you see the commercial aggression with
which the World Cup series are being promoted. It's everywhere! Suddenly everyone
seems so patriotic.

But what I really like about this month is that the Dutch streets are all quiet
when the Dutch team (I don't say 'we') is playing. I sit outside, in the sun, and
all I hear are cuckoos, woodpeckers, thrushes and some odd cheering and hooting
from afar when they make a goal. It's an extraordinary experience.

Best regards,

Marcel.
