Ben,
Here's a short family history.

Paternal side: Grandfather's descent is from Poland; grandmother's descent is
from Slovakia. Both: to Pennsylvania, then to Ohio (about 45 minutes
South/South-West from Pittsburgh, PA). Id est I grew up in St. Clairsville,
Ohio.

Jonny,
There doesn't seem to be any Mennonite influence. But interestingly enough,
it is somewhat believed, though there hasn't been any sufficient evidence to
conclude this, that my maternal side has Dutch descent. How might that relate
to the verb "to read up" or "to ready?"; might it be to some conclusion of the
origins of my maternal side of my family?

Allow me to ask if anyone might be familiar with the last names (my maternal
side): Protiva or Diday. Might these be of a Germanic descent?
