Folks,

The NDR (Norddeutscher Rundfunk, North German Broadcasting Corp.) has
strengthened its Internet presence.  The site still has some teething problems
but seems promising.  

The new address: www.ndr.de/platt/

You need to have German reading proficiency to navigate the site.

Among other things you can open an account and can also make your geographical
location known.  However, it is not easy to navigate to the relevant pages due to
less than obvious links.

P.S.: I'm a little bit peeved that with the title "Die Welt ist platt" they kind
of stole mine ("Nu is de Welt platt!" -- http://www.lowlands-l.net/plattewelt/).
 However, I'm pleased to know that the NDR is finally joining those of us who
have dared to "look across the backyard fence," dared to present our language
globally.  Most other organizations in Northern Germany continue to pretend that
our language stops at the German border, and they continue to believe that it
must be confined to "local" and "regional" and that using it in international
contacts and in translation of literature from other languages would be to far to
exotic for the average North German to stomach. Well, we'll see ...

Die plattdeutsche Welt bei NDR Online

Wi snackt platt – heißt es nun auch bei NDR Online. Platt ist das neue
plattdeutsche Angebot auf www.ndr.de/platt und dort trifft sich die weltweite
plattdeutsche Gemeinde. Von Hör mal’n beten to über Op Platt bis zu Neues aus
Büttenwarder auf Platt finden sich nun alle plattdeutschen Sendungen aus Radio
und Fernsehen im Ãœberblick. Besonders spannend: Ob Hamburg oder Namibia -
Plattschnacker aus aller Welt können sich auf www.ndr.de/platt registrieren, über
ihren plattdeutschen Hintergrund schreiben oder ein Bild hinterlegen. Und ihren
Standort auf der Platt Welt-Karte eintragen sowie andere Plattschnacker finden
und ihnen mailen. Den User erwartet ein umfangreiches Angebot: Er kann das
plattdeutsche Wörterbuch mit Begriffen von Ackerschnacker bis Witscherquast um
weitere Wörter aus seiner Region bereichern. Und findet zudem die wochentags
aktualisierten Norichten op Platt sowie die Geschichte der plattdeutschen Sprache
auf Hoch- und Plattdeutsch. Schließlich kann der Plattschnacker seine
Lieblingssendung in plattdeutscher Sprache als Podcast abrufen und hören, wann
immer er will.
