Moyn Lowlanders,

Heiko Evermann asked 01 December 2007:

> what is LS for "Erfolg", "Erfolg haben", "erfolgreich sein"? [...]
> * Is "Spood" well attested? (I have not found it in Lübben's Middle
> Low
> Saxon dictionary.)

You can find it there in Lübben's on p.379 as

"spot,
m. n. u. f. guter, glücklicher Fortgang,
dann überh. Fortgang, Eile,
Beschleunigung; mit der spot, eilig, sogleich.°

"spoden,
sw. v. beeilen, fördern; refl.
sieh sputen, sich rasch fort machen"

Just to augment Reinhard Hahn's comprehensive list of exaamples, here
the Osnabrück-Westphalian one:

"spout,
Eile, Hast; >alle Hast is keen Spaut< nicht jede Eile fördert die
Sache [not all haste/hurry/precipitancy advances the case/cause/
success - jk], festina lente!"

(Klötrup, Niederdeutsch-Westphälisches Wörterbuch [of 1824], Vol. 2,
Hildesheim 1984, ISBN 3-7848-3647-X)

But with the coming electronic version of Lübben search will go much
"spoudiger/spoydiger"...
