Nor would I.  I've never claimed it, nor do I remember being appointed to
that station by others.

Actually, I meant: I would never claim the honour of being called a linguist
(forget about the "top" bit)! As I said, I really consider myself a natural
scientist and always will, and the only function I fulfill here is that of
court jester. I consider linguistics (not to be confused with
communications!) a nice playground, but fairly unimportant in the big
picture. The world's major problems are generated (alas) and solved
(hopefully) elsewhere.
