the lily", I am reminded of an old admonition:

A brother is a friend
    Who defends you to the end;
A step-brother is he
     Who improves your poetry.

Do you mean "step-brother" in the Cinderellan sense or in the sense of "true
friend"?

Whatever thing you do,
    A brother sticks up for you.
Beyond blood loyalty,
    A friend gilds your lil-lee.

Talking about literature, folks, you might want to check out Arthur's

hitherto unfinished trilogy.  I'm sure he'd love it if you shared your
reactions and suggestions, even if this amounts to gilding the lily.
