Folks,

Please don't forget about the illustration contest for the revamping of our
main website:

Until the conclusion of the contest, the submissions will be displayed here:

This display is likely to change daily, if not several times per day,
depending on your participation. We are withholding names until choices have
been made.

Thanks to those who already submitted pictures.

The categories you see listed there are the themes for which we require
suitable, good-quality graphics that we would be permitted to use. Those for
the "General" category don't necessarily have to fit into the box; we might
use them or part of them in a collage inside the box, not necessarily
filling it.

Please send your submissions to lowlands.list at gmail.com under the subject
heading "LL-L Pictures".  If the illustrations are very, very large, please
send reduced-size versions and we would get back to you if we need larger
versions later.

Please also indicate whether or not we will eventually be permitted to
mention your names in connection with your submissions, and/or the name of
the person from whom you received them.  Yes, pictures from non-members are
welcome if they give us permission to use them.

Pictures of people would be great, but this tends to be tricky regarding
permission.

Pictures for the language-specific pages can be area-specific, if
applicable.  As for those for the general category, please bear in mind the
entire Lowlands, which consitute a less geographical than "mental" entity.
In order not to come across as stuck in the past and in the countryside, it
would be nice to have compositions or juxtapositions of old-and-new and
rural-and-urban, perhaps even "startling" ones, i.e., stark contrasts.  We
can always do collages if this can not be captured within one photograph.
The hay bales on the vast, flat field (
http://lowlands-l.net/pics/general.htm, LL-Lpic_001) are an example. The
rolls suggest modern machinery, and their scattered positions may be
regarded as being metaphorical for the languages and cultures that share the
same source ... well, if you are poetically inclined, that is.
