Hi,
My friend's last name is Wilfahrt. He is a teacher and also shares a good
laugh with the English speaking school boys (regardless of age) about how
his name should be pronounced. He plays a harmonica in a local musical
group. Excellent, excellent musician! His uncle, "Whoopy" John Wilfahrt
played the accordian for a German polka band here in eastern Wisconsin. He
was considered one of the best ever.

So, you can see that it is simply a matter of perspective when it comes to
pronouncing foriegn words.

Many English people find the name of the Dutch politician Ruud Lubbers very
funny, if they have heard of him.
