Ron,

The Oxford American Dictionary gives this definition and etymology for
the phrase la-la-land:

Dictionary
la-la land |lɑ lɑ lønd| noun informal Los Angeles or Hollywood, esp.
with regard to the lifestyle and attitudes of those living there or
associated with it. • a fanciful state or dreamworld. ORIGIN la-la,
reduplication of LA (i.e., Los Angeles).

Interesting theory though, and I wonder if there isn't a little more to
it than what the dictionary says.
