Arabische universiteit in Marokko biedt Nederlands aan Marokko biedt als
eerste land in de Arabische wereld Nederlands op universitair niveau aan. In
januari 2008 begint de letterenfaculteit van de Hassan II-universiteit van
Casablanca met de eerste lessen Nederlands. De lessen zijn bedoeld voor
studenten van de universiteit. Het project wordt medegefinancierd door de
Nederlandse Taalunie.

Noord-Afrika en de Arabische wereld waren tot nu toe blinde vlekken op de
kaart, aldus Marc le Clercq van de Nederlandse Taalunie, een
verdragsorganisatie waarin Nederland, Vlaanderen en Suriname samenwerken op
het gebied van taalbeleid. Op dit moment wordt buiten het Nederlandse
taalgebied op tweehonderd universiteiten in veertig landen Nederlands
