From: R. F. Hahn <sassisch at yahoo.com>
Subject: Anniversary

All right, Lowlanders,

I did get all the necessary Web (webbed-feeted) ducks in a row for today's
beginning of the anniversary month.

I have changed the menus of our sites somewhat (to facilitate navigation)
and have included links to "Beyond the Pale", which is hereby published. All
the sites are now interlinked.

At the main site I've added a new welcoming page to include what is new.

   - *Main site*
   http://lowlands-l.net/
   - *Anniversary*
   http://lowlands-l.net/anniversary/
   - *Gallery*
   http://lowlands-l.net/gallery/
   - *Travels*
   http://lowlands-l.net/travels/
   - *Beyond the Pale*
   http://lowlands-l.net/beyondthepale/

I would like to thank all of you, especially those of you who have been
participating actively and those of you who have helped to build up our Web
presentations. Special thanks go also to those of you who joined and/or
recently began to participate in earnest in our 13th year, such as Marlou
Lessing and John Howland for example.

I never cease to be amazed by the loyalty some of you have been showing, and
most of them have been among the main LL-L engines as well. Long-timers are
many, some of them going back pretty much to the very beginning. This is
really remarkable, and I can't thank you enough.

If you really think about it, it isn't all that easy to achieve what we are
trying to achieve, because we aim high as well as far. We try to get people
from far and wide into one room, not only without them tearing each other
apart, but actually in a friendly or at least respectful atmosphere. I
believe we can maintain this if we keep reminding ourselves that we come
with different cultures and languages willing to share them while at the
same time not being seen as representing ethnic groups and countries. We are
individuals of different backgrounds trying to learn from each other and
with each other, and also support each other and connect with each other.
There is a lot of power and potential in this, and we have only barely begun
to tap into them.

Let's keep the momentum going!

While I was waiting for the bus this morning, a small bird with a yellow
crown with two black stripes in it sat down on the fence right by me. He may
have been defending his nest. At any rate, he (and I think it was a male)
gave me quite a few pieces of his mind. Let's just believe it was something
like "Happy anniversary!"

Happy anniversary, Lowlanders!

Reinhard/Ron
