I should point out that crawsteps are still very much in vogue in
Scotland.

And long may this be the case.Interestingly enough Brisbane was originally
ran by several District Councils which were finally amalgamated
into a single entity. The old Windsor Council Building still stands and is
of stone construction with craw steps
on the gables. Now a museum I must try overcoming local parking problems and
try to find out who designed and
built it and when. I suspect Scottish stonemasons were involved. Some were
'imported' to Australia to build the stone piers of
Sydney Harbour Bridge. Of course stonemasons from Edinburgh's Mary's Chapel
Lodge
built the White House assisted by trained locals. The Americans first gave
them black slaves
which caused the US's first industrial dispute as the Scots refused to
accept them as apprentices had to be initiated into
their Lodge. Such candidates had to be Free men.
