Hallo Roger,

Ten eerste. bedankt voor de complete uitleg (als dat mogelijk is) van de
structuur van de Belgische, Vlaamse, en Waalse vormen van regering. Ik had
dit lesje hard nodig. Ik krijg wel een beetje het gevoel van waarom het
makkelijk doen als het moeilijk kan, maar naast het vaak verguisde Polder
Model hebben we nu ook een Belgische Oplossing.

Verder ben je de enige niet die de beroemde windmolen van Lynden miste. Toen
wij in 1970 op weg van Philadelphia via Canada naar Seattle bij Lynden over
de grens kwamen, was het eerste dat ik zag een groot uithangbord van "Van de
Kamp, Dutch Bakery". Ik raakte er helemaal opgewonden van en droomde van
heerlijk volkorenbrood. De teleurstelling was dusdanig dat we het dorp niet
verder zijn ingegaan. In het begin was het nog zo dat de kinderen als ze
weer op vacantie bij Oma waren geweest vroegen "Mamma kun je hier ook echt
brood kopen"? Gelukkig heeft Seattle nu ook heerlijk bruin brood van de
warme bakker.. Jacqueline

Now there's one of those topics I had hoped and am still hoping to cover at
our Travel site (http://lowlands-l.net/travels/).

What I've been having in mind is a section in which we list (and we don't
need to write any blurbs) places (town, streets, specific business) at which
you can get specific Lowlands things, be they food or anything else. For
outside the Lowlands (European and otherwise) we would serve Lowlander
travelers and emigrants that are looking for hard-to-find back-home
commodities, and at the same time we'd serve people that can't travel abroad
and are looking for such things at home. We would help visitors to Lowlands
countries by listing places at which they can get genuine, old-time Lowlands
items (most of which are becoming scarcer even in their countries of origin
now that practically all business by from the same international suppliers
and restaurants' menu the world over have less and less variety.

Jacqueline mentioned good, old Dutch (and North German) bread in North
America. This could start one list. We could make it specific or general.
General would be where to buy Dutch things (not to forget *muisjes*,
*struipwaffelen
*and genuine salty licorice). Further possibilities with "genuine" implied
in each case: English food and stuff for English tea parties, Scottish foods
(such as the Scottish bakery in Vancouver), various traditional clothing
items and fabrics, etc.

Think about it and write to me if you have ideas and want to volunteers. It
doesn't have to be anything spectacular and elaborate.
