Beste Pat,

*My mum would  not let me use 'chuffed' (she from Northants may have first

* Chuff is related to chafe (meaning to warm up by rubbing). Except it's not
hands that are getting warm. And pleased.*

Sounds reasonable. To chuff, chafe < chauffer (French) = to warm up. The
French word got stuck in Brabantish as well: "schaven" (B) ~
"schouden"/"schouwen" (D, wash something in boiling water) < Old French
"échauder", to heat up. Same root as "chauffeur", stoker of a steam engine.

Kind greetings,

Beste Marcel,

beter weten. Vertel me even de volgende over het woord *rood*.
runen.

Hartelijke groetjes,

Petrus *[van Eeden]*
