Elsa asked: “My question is is this a new SPANISH word based on the ENGLISH
pronounciation?”

To me the word “banano” means the tree on which bananas grow. But, I just
checked www.wordreference.com (a source that I use a lot for translating)
and it does mean banana tree, but it also means banana in Central America
and Colombia.
