The German Wikipedia article on the topic “tschüs” is quite informative:

In simmary, it seems as if there might be connections towards both Spain and
Portugal (as Ron indicated) and to France, the latter possibly via Walloon
“adjuus”. The French original is more easily recognizable in the Rhineland
version “tschö” (from adieu), while the South German “adé” might indicate a
loan directly from Latin.
