Ron, Elsie Re: Low Saxon has cognates of *skobbejak*: *Schubbjack ~
Schubbejack ~ Schubberjack* 'rascal', 'scoundrel', 'scallywag'. I can't
figure out its etymology.

Schubben in Dutch are the same as Scale in English. Would this be a slippery
person maybe. There are other examples of descriptions of persons with
qualities derived from animals.

I like f.i. “ongelikte beer” for an uncouth person. Jacqueline

Dutch schaft (meal break for workmen like in construction and so), frisian
skoft 'short period/break', antwerpian schoofzak, the bag in which the
workers/'arbeiders' take their usually wife-prepared lunch to work
