Dear Michael, dear Lowlanders,

my mother says "ßt" and "ßp" and my brothers changed from ßt and ßp to schp
and scht. I myself never said ßt and ßp, what's a pity.

Greetings,

Anja

>> She still says s-t and s-p (sie s-tolpert über s-pitze S-teine)
Is it
* ßt and ßp
* or is it more like ßd and ßb?
To me it sounds a bit more like the latter.

When I was in Grundschule in Elmshorn/Holstein in the 1970ies we
already said schtein but we said Schorns/tein. Today even this st has
disappeared.

Helmut Schmidt still pronounces it as s-t and I thought maybe it would
be fun to practise that again and promote it in north Germany.

Heiko
