re: Funny language stories.

I have a friend who is German, but has lived in the States since she was
about 14 and hasn't been back to Germany (she's now nearly 34).  About 13
years ago, when we first met, she spoke German for the first time in several
years, and was very happy to be able to do so and took every chance she got.

One day, we were talking about something and her boyfriend came in and they
exchanged a few sentences in English, about something like our plans for the
evening.  She then turned to me and started translating what he had said in
English into German for me ("Also, der hat gesagt, dass...").  I looked her
in the eye and said, "Thanks sweetie, I can speak English." We've laughed
about that for years. :-)
