Hi Ron, "Butty" is widely used for a sandwich throughout northern England.
A favourite is the "chip butty", fries between two slices of buttered
bread.  Not widely promoted by the British Heart Foundation.
Sandy, I first heard "piece" years ago working in a biscuit factory in
Leicester. We had a lot of hands from from Corby in Northants, which was
about 80% Glaswegian in those days.  I usually had little problem wit the
dialect, though I often acted as interpreter for the forman!

But WeeTam asking me "hae ye anny pieces?" (but all the words run together
and mostly glottal stops) had me floored.
